Swan Hill

The Riverland - Paddle Steamer on river Nestled on the banks of the Murray River, and perfect for a relaxing getaway, the Swan Hill region offers visitors a chance to escape the fast pace of every day life. Step back in time and absorb the old-world charm of the historic Pioneer Settlement, tour one of two historic 19th century homesteads or drift gently down the river on an unforgettable houseboat holiday.

The Swan Hill region covers some 6,200sq kilometres with 500km of Murray river frontage. The city of Swan Hill has a population of 10,000 and was originally named in 1836 when Major Mitchell passed through. Other smaller towns within the region include Robinvale, Tooleybuc, Nyah, Nyah West, and Lake Boga.

The Swan Hill region has one of the most productive and diverse agriculture sectors in Australia. Industries include grain, beef, sheep, wool, dairy, pasture hay, stonefruit, vegetables, nuts, citrus and grapes. Many of these industries rely on irrigated water from the Murray river and visitors can witness green irrigated horticulture and dryland cropping within a few minutes drive.

With frontage to Australia's greatest river the Murray, the Swan Hill region also provides visitors access to a remarkable variety of lakes and waterways. Fishing, boating, waterskiing, canoeing and swimming are just a few of the activities available. For sporting enthusiasts, the region offers an excellent standard of facilities including six golf courses, lawn tennis courts, speedway, horse and greyhound racing, and bowling greens.

The Swan Hill region has it all - whether staying a week or just passing through, our friendly towns will make you welcome.
